Prez. Mahama’s brother angry at Chairman Wontumi; demands unqualified apology

IBRAHIM MAHAMA, a younger brother of President John Mahama, has asked Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly called Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to quickly retract a statement he made about him (Ibrahim) and the President and apologize to them.

According to Ibrahim, he would be compelled to take appropriate steps to protect and defend his hard-won image which Wontumi’s recent public comments had dented, if the NPP chairman failed to abide by his order.

He wanted the NPP Regional Chairman to immediately retract his allegation that he (Mahama) and his brother (President Mahama) are corrupt and that they are milking the State at the detriment of the masses.

He said the retraction should be published in Daily Graphic and Kumasi-based Ash FM, which published and broadcasted Wontumi’s wild allegation about him and the President at an NPP function at Obuasi.

This was contained in a letter sent to Wontumi by Mr. Mahama’s lawyer, Charles William Zwennes of Gaisie Zwennes Hughes and Co, which DAILY GUIDE has sighted.

The strongly-worded missive charged Wontumi to retract the story latest by yesterday, April 16, 2014, else he would have the right to take “any permissible action” to defend his image.

Ashanti Regional NPP Scribe, Sam Pyne, confirmed to DAILY GUIDE that he received Ibrahim Mahama’s letter on behalf of Wontumi at the NPP office at Bantama on Tuesday.

Part of the letter that the paper sighted said Wontumi on March 30, this year, at an NPP function at Obuasi, accused Ibrahim Mahama and his brother of being involving in corruption.

It claimed that Wontumi, before a sizeable number of NPP faithful, stated that he (Ibrahim) and President Mahama were stealing state funds from the ever-increasing petrol and tariff price increases.

It described Wontumi’s assertion as “malicious and false” which had dented the image of President Mahama and Ibrahim Mahama.

Meanwhile, Campaign Manager of Wontumi, Andy Owusu, has told DAILY GUIDE that his boss was aware of a letter sent to him by Ibrahim Mahama but they were yet to lay their hands on it.

Wontumi, at the same function, had pledged to mobilize two million people to hit the streets in protest against the Mahama administration regarding the hardship the President had inflicted on Ghanaians.
