Takoradi Radio DJs blame Radio Station CEOs for insufficient support

downloadMany residents of Takoradi have wondered why some famous Disc Jockeys (DJs) hardly speak on air during their radio shows. This left many people obstinating until last Saturday on OC Showbiz Review on Skyy Power 93.5, the DJs in question answered their fans and non fans alike why their voices are missing on air.

DJ Ami, DJ Magic George and Papa Tony from Melody FM, Radio Maxx FM and Paragon FM respectively were grilled  by the Presenter, Nana Kwame the Master Planner to find out what their main concerns are. In what can be described as a chorus answer, the DJs heavily shifted blames on some Radio Station CEOs for their limping performances. DJ Ami categorically stated in Fante that “You know at Joy Fm, DJ Black is heavily supported by his station. He is even given about GHc 1,800 and over to purchase software to boost his works but in Takoradi such thing does not exist.”

He further pointed out that, one of the many reasons why a DJ’s work would soar is the support he gets from his employers adding that, one may be super talented but if he/she (DJ) doesn’t find himself in the right radio station, that could downplay his performance and his progress in the field.

He narrated an ordeal where during one of his shows, he was speaking on air and a Manager drove to the studio and switched off the microphone he was using; to him, that down spirited him. Magic George as well shared similar occurrence where he was told in the face by a boss that he is not good at speaking on air so he should not try that on his medium.

In the nomination lists of Ghana DJ Awards, no Takoradi DJ has made a feature in the nominations and when an official in the academy was asked, he said “maybe because they are not good enough.”
