PHOTO: 2 NDC regional executives, 9 others die in accident

5b7224cc35d5d333c36f88cbb607519e_LTwo women organisers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and nine other persons died in three separate accidents last Friday and Saturday.

In the first accident last Friday, eight people died on the spot, while nine others sustained varying degrees of injury, when the vehicles on which they were travelling were involved in an accident at a spot near the Gomoa Potsin Junction on the Accra-Cape Coast highway.

The second accident, which claimed the lives of the two women organisers of the NDC, occurred on the Kintampo – Techiman road when a Yutong bus veered off its lane and ran into the vehicle in which the deceased were travelling.

They have been identified as Hajia Adisa Sali, Greater Accra Deputy Women’s Organiser and her counterpart, Madam Agnes Tia, Deputy Volta Regional Women’s Organiser,

The third accident, which occurred at Ejisu in the Ashanti region, claimed the life of the daughter of Mr Ibrahim Adam, Mrs Aina Ibrahim Quaigraine.

In respect of the Gomoa Potsin incident, the accident, which occurred around 9:20 p.m., involved a KIA mini bus, with registration number GW 8594-12, and a Benz Sprinter bus, with registration number GW 7252-14.

The mini bus, which was loaded with fish, was heading to Winneba from Tema, while the Sprinter was travelling from Cape Coast to Accra.

Six of the injured persons are currently receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, while the three others are being attended to at the Winneba Government Hospital.

Briefing

The Winneba Municipal Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr John Paul Akonde, who confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic, said the dead, who were yet to be identified, included the driver of the mini bus and two children.

He said the seven other dead persons were on board the Sprinter bus.

Mr Akonde said the accident might have been the result of wrongful overtaking by one of the drivers, which the police were yet to establish since investigations were still ongoing.

According to him, the injured were currently not stable and the police were waiting for them to recover to assist in further investigations.

The bodies of the dead have since been deposited at the morgue of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for autopsy.

As of the time of filing this report, checks at both hospitals revealed that the injured were responding to treatment.

Ade Coker on accident involving women organisers

According to Mr Ade Coker, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, the driver of the vehicle and the Greater Accra Women’s Organiser of the NDC, Madam Vivian Ankrah narrowly escaped death and were airlifted to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra where they are currently responding to treatment.

Hajia Adisa has since been buried in line with Islamic customs while the body of Madam Agnes Tia has been deposited in the morgue.

Mr Coker told the Daily Graphic that the accident occured between 8pm and 9pm while they were returning from the funeral.

He said the party had been shaken by the untimely death of the two describing Hajia Adisa as one of the finest comrades of the party in Accra and across the country.

He said she was one of the earliest apostles of the party from 1992 who rose through the ranks of the party to the position she held before her untimely death.

“She was always full of smiles and very hardworking. The region will miss her a lot”, he said.

Mr Coker, therefore, entreated all the party structures at the regional level to observe a week of mourning for the dead while assuring their families that the party would be vigorously involved in all related activities to ensure that their memories were kept.

He also wished Madam Vivian Ankrah and the driver speedy recovery while urging party members to keep praying for them.

“It is a great loss and I am personally traumatised. I don’t know what words to use but their ideas and what they stood for will never be forgotten”, he assured.

Ibrahim Adam’s daughter

In another development, the immediate past board chairman of the Agriculture Development Bank (adb), Mr Ibrahim Adam’s has lost his daughter, Mrs Aina Ibrahim Quaigraine in an accident at Ejisu in the Ashanti region.

She was travelling with her husband Charles Abiw Quagraine when the accident occured but Mr Quaigraine survived the accident while the driver of the Toyota Tundra vehicle also escaped unhurt.
