Shatta Wale’s awards missing

It seems the drama surrounding the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) takes a new twist each day, as it has emerged that the lady who took the awards on behalf of Shatta Wale remains unknown days after the event.

NEWS-ONE has confirmed that neither Shatta Wale’s management nor the VGMA organizers Charter House had planned for the ‘unknown’ lady to pick up the statuettes on behalf of Shatta, and her presence on stage came as a surprise.

Meanwhile, Shatta has also not received the statutes that went with the three awards he earned on the night – Overall Best Artiste of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year and Dancehall/Raggae Song of the Year, all with his song, ‘Dancehall King’.

“My brother, we don’t know her. We were watching from home when we saw her going on stage to pick the award and say she is a lover of the SM family and was taking the award on our behalf. But honestly, we do not know her. I could have been there myself to pick on his behalf but as I said there were issues we could not reach a compromise on,” Bull Dog, Shatta’s manager told NEWS-ONE after the awards and said they did not know where the statutes were.

On Monday, NEWS-ONE found the drama intriguing and decided to find out from Charter House under which circumstances the ‘unknown’ lady took Shatta’s awards and was even given VIP treatment at the event.

George Quaye, Senior Events Producer/Director and Head of Media, Brands and Communication for Charter House expressed surprise when NEWS-ONE told him Shatta Wale’s manager had denied knowing the lady.

“Well that is surprising; so where from the lady and where are the awards then? We had planned for KOD to pick up the awards on behalf of Shatta Wale because he had worked with him when he was Bandana but the lady turned up,” George Quaye noted.

Indeed, when the unknown lady appeared on stage for the second time to pick an award on behalf of Shatta, she was joined on stage by KOD who announced that he should have been the one representing Shatta. He however allowed the ‘unknown’ lady to pick it.

On why the ‘unknown’ lady was given VIP treatment by the organizers, Mr. Quaye said it was normal practice that anyone who had a VIP ticket would receive complete VIP treatment.

He continued: “It was not only the lady who had VIP treatment. And you may have seen that there were other members of the SM family who had VIP tickets and were given same treatment just like all other VIP guests.”

Meanwhile Shatt Wale has taken to his face- book wall to explain why he did not attend the VGMA: “MY LOVELY PEOPLE, I TOLD YOU LAST YEAR I WAS GOING TO PROVE THIS PEOPLE 1 DESERVE TO BE RESPECTED WHEN IT COMES TO MUSIC IN GHANA.# CHARTER

  • HOUSE CONTACTED ME TO COME AND PERFORM AT THE # VGMA AND I ASKED THEM TO PAY ME #70,000GHC AND THEY REFUSED. BUT THEY WILL PAY HUGE SUMS OF DOLLARS TO OTHER ARTISTE FROM OTHER COUNTRIES TO COME AND PERFORM. BUT FOR US (GH ARTISTE), THEY WILL SAY THE MONEY IS TOO MUCH FOR THEM TO PAY..GH STARS STAND

– UP!!!!! I KNOW MOST OF YOU CANT TALK WHEN THEY TAKE YOU FOR GRANTED BUT 1 WILL….AWARD OR NO AWARD…I AM STILL SHATTA WALE….THE #REVOLUTIONIST
