Who’s the lady who picked up Shatta Wale’s awards? We don’t know her – Bull Dog

The 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) would go down in history as one of the most memorable, as the biggest winner of the night, Shatta Wale, waited till the event was over before he appeared and pulled a mammoth crowd that blocked access road to the venue.

Shatta was officially adjudged the overall Best Artiste of the Year and his mega hit track, ‘Dancehall King’, also won the Most Popular Song of the Year and Dancehall/Raggae Song of the year, bringing to an end, the never-ending debate on who Ghana’s Dancehall king really is.

The incorrigible musician however stuck to his word not to attend the event and none of his management members was present to pick the awards on his behalf.  All three awards were picked on Shatta’s behalf by a ‘strange lady’ who introduced herself as a lover of the Shatta Movement family.

Shatta, a few hours to the show, had sent word round that unless the organizers paid him an amount of GH¢70,000 as performance fee, he would not attend the show.

His management further revealed that most of their fans had threatened to abandon the artiste if he attended the event.

STRANGE LADY

NEWS-ONE contacted Shatta’s manager, Bull Dog, to confirm the identity of the lady but he said they do not know her.

“My brother, we don’t know her. We were watching from home when we saw her going on stage to pick the award and say she is a lover of the SM family and was taking the award on our behalf. But honestly, we do not know her. I could have been there myself to pick on his behalf but as I said there were issues we could not reach a compromise on.”

After the programme ended, Shatta Wale was reported to have appeared at the Conference Centre to speak to his fans and attracted a mammoth crowd that caused a huge vehicular traffic.

Bull explained to NEWS-ONE what happened: “We were watching it at home when our lights went off, so we moved to Osu to eat and we were eating not far from the stadium so it was on our way home that we used the road in front of the venue and his fans saw him.

“We could not disrespect them so Shatta had to wave and so on. They asked why he was not present and he explained the two issues to them. They understood and that was it,” Bull added.

NEWS-ONE has picked signals that Shatta and his management would be staging a free music show for the SM family at Nima, Korle Gonno and Dansoman.
