“I am very surprised. I don’t have a facebook account and so I don’t know where this is coming from. I have never said the National Economic Forum was not important,” asserts a former Majority leader of Parliament, Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin.
This remark follows a comment that was written on facebook in the name of Hon. Alban Sumani Bagbin. The comment which questioned the relevance of the NEF stated: “Do we really need an economic forum? What do you think and why?”
This raised eyebrows and according to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) confirms their assertion that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is divided as far as organization of the ongoing National Economic Forum is concerned.
The four-day forum, which started on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, according to government is aimed at achieving consensus on policies, strategies and measures that are required to accelerate Ghana’s transition from a lower middle income nation to an upper middle income economy with sustainable path of development that guarantees improvements in the quality of life for all Ghanaians.
But speaking in an interview on Peace FM, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli/Kaleo in the Northern Region denied ever writing such comments.
Hon. Bagbin said there is no way he will disagree with the forum because it is in the right step and it will help in finding a lasting solution to the country’s economic crisis.
