NDC man shot carrying wee

Man-ShotA popular figure in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Mim, near Goaso in the Asunafo North Constituency of the Brong-Ahafo Region, was shot by the police while transporting substances believed to be Indian hemp, popularly called Weed.

Abdul Raman Bofah aka Abu, 31, an NDC member, according to DAILY GUIDE’s sources close to the police, was allegedly shot by the Mim police upon a tip-off on Thursday afternoon around 12noon as he tried to transport a full sack of Weed on his motorbike from Gambia to Bediako, two different communities in the district.

The police signaled Abu to stop but he refused.

They gave him a hot chase and fired a shot at him leading to his arrest.

Abu, who was slightly injured, was conveyed to the Goaso Government Hospital where he was treated and discharged on Friday.

During interrogation, Abu claimed ownership of the exhibits- the suspected Indian hemp and the motorbike, which are currently in the custody of the police.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the Goaso Divisional Police Command surprisingly ordered the release of the suspect after his treatment at the hospital though the offence is non-bailable.

The Divisional Command instructed the Mim police to detain the police officer, who shot the NDC drug peddler and charge him accordingly, it gathered.

The move has angered police personnel in the area who have accused their superiors of taking part in active politics.

They accused the police hierarchy in the area of unduly succumbing to politicians in the region.

Some police personnel, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on condition of anonymity, said the said NDC drug peddler was arrested by the police before the 2012 elections for similar offence, but was released because of his links to top politicians.

Meanwhile, attempts to speak to the Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Moses Ali, on phone proved futile, as he failed to answer calls by the reporter.
