Government offers Gh¢100,000 bounty for killers of Bimbilla chief

GHANA-VOTE-RESULTGovernment has announced a Gh¢100,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the arrest of the killers of the Overlord of Bimbilla, Naa Dasana Dawuni.

The traditional ruler was said to be the target of latest chieftaincy clashes at his palace, which also led to the killing of three other persons. Five persons -including a four-month old baby- also sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

Government in a statement Friday, condemned the attacks and expressed “deepest regret the gruesome murder of  the Overlord of Bimbilla Naa Andani and three others on Thursday”.

“A financial package of GHC100, 000 will be awarded to anybody who provides information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators of this act” a government statement announced.

The statement signed by Information and Media Relations Minister, Mahama Ayariga said “…Security Agencies have already started investigations into this heinous crime and every effort is being made tobring  the perpetrators to justice. We call on the citizens of the area, especially in Bimbilla, to  remain calm”.

“We have beefed up security in the area to ensure law and order and the protection of lives and property.

The Northern Regional Police command imposed a curfew on the Bimbila township and its environs after fierce fighting ensued between two feuding factions on March 7, 2014.

The clash ensued after the death of Nakpaa-Naa Salifu Dawuni, one of two persons contesting for the Bimbila skin.

The two factions are in disagreement over the where to bury Nakpaa-Naa Dawuni. There have been many other disturbances in the township as a result of this disagreement.
