girl-robber-2FOUR SUSPECTED robbers, including an 18-year-old girl, Zakiya Abdullai Asofo, a student, have been grabbed by the police in connection with a series of robberies that had been going on at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and its nearby communities.

The other suspects in police net include Sherrif Abdulai Asofo, 18, an illegal miner; Sadick Mohammed, alias ‘Zinga’ 30 and Daniel Gyamfi, alias ‘JD’, 28. They were arrested on July 7, 2014 from their hideouts.

The four persons are alleged to be part of a dangerous robbery group, made up of about 20 people, who have specialised in robbing people of their valuables such as electronic gadgets, laptops, flashy mobile phones, among other items.

The terror group has also been accused of raping some of their female victims at gunpoint after robbing them of their valuables.

After every successful robbery expedition, the female robber and her group, allegedly sell the stolen items to their agents who in turn sell them to the unsuspecting public.

DCOP Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, made these known at a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday. He used the conference to brief the media about the security situation in the region.

Through police intelligence, he said, one Fred Owusu alias ‘Akwasi,’ an IT specialist said to be a luminary when it comes to the deleting of data from stolen gadgets, was also apprehended in connection with the case.

The police, who are leaving no stone unturned to come to the bottom of the robbery menace at the KNUST and its environs –  Kotei, Deduako and Ejisu – have also grabbed three other people in connection with the case.

They are Enoch Ofori Sarpong, alias ‘D12’ 20, unemployed and Kwame Moro, alias ‘Fada’ 30, who usually sell the stolen products to the final buyer, Nasiru Mohammed, alias ‘Baranton’, 33, a trader at Adum.

DCOP Boakye described the arrest of the four suspected robbers and their agents as a breakthrough for the police in their resolve to flush out criminals operating at the KNUST area.

The police chief said the other members of the group who were still at large, were being tracked down and assured the public that the law enforcement agents would grab them soon to face the law.

DCOP Kofi Boakye expressed delight over the enabling peaceful environment in the region for the past one month; but pointed out that the police would not rest on their oars.

According to him, mobile phones, laptops, Ipads, flat screen television sets, an amount of money and other expensive electronic gadgets, were retrieved from the robbers and their agents.

The police found one Argentine-made pistol with five rounds of ammunition from Zakiya’s room after a search – perhaps a proof that the young lady is a terror robber.
