IMANI says Mahama needed Spio Garbrah but not at Trade

dr-spio-garbrah-giving-his-addressThe head of IMANI Franklin Cudjoe is applauding the return to government of Spio Garbrah but said his services are needed more at the Energy Ministry than at the Trade Ministry where he is being sent.

Cudjoe maintained that with Ghana’s energy crisis and its attendant load shedding programme, it would have been better to have the more experienced Garbrah manning that Energy Ministry.

The former CEO of the Commonwealth Telecommunication of the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisations (CTO) who was also the Communications Minister under President John Rawlings was named in a new ministerial reshuffle announced by President John Mahama, Wednesday.

The reshuffle also saw the Ministry of Information and Media Relations collapsed and brought under the Communications Ministry.

Speaking to Joy News, Franklin Cudjoe welcomed the return of Spio Garbrah but was unimpressed with the Trade and Industry Portfolio assigned to him.

He said apart from the Finance Ministry which is facing challenges, the Energy Ministry is one key sector needing an experienced hand and believes Dr. Garbrah would have done a good job on that.

‘Saving our ears’

Mr. Cudjoe is however elated about the collapse of the Information Ministry, hoping that Ghanaians can now have a reprieve from the cacophonous propaganda that the Infprmation Ministry was reputed.

He was also hopeful that some savings will be made if the personnel in that ministry are not reassigned to other ministries.

He expressed utmost surprise with the reassignment of some ministers whom he said had “goofed badly” and wished such ministers were sacked.
