The chiefs and people of Kpeyiborme near Kpeve in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region were thrown into a state of panic when a middle-aged man allegedly cut off his son’s head in the open last Friday, July 18.
The man, who residents say is a farmer, is known as Gideon Abotsi and is 37 years of age.
Sources say the man carried out the heinous crime after his wife, Sena, purportedly refused to bear him more children.
A neighbour, who did not want his identity to be made public, said although Abotsi has four children with his wife, he had been pestering the woman to give him another child, but that had not happened.
The wife had refused to acquiesce to the demand of the husband because according to the neighbour, she said it was not economically and socially sensible to beget more children when she and the husband had been having a very tough time catering for the four they already have.
Infuriated by this, Gideon last Friday evening, allegedly took his last born, Sitsope, a three-year-old boy, picked a cutlass and chopped off the head.
The Volta Regional Police Commander, ACP Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said Gideon had been arrested and that investigations were underway, adding that Gideon Abotsi would soon be arraigned before court for prosecution.
He cautioned the public to be careful with their utterances and relationships and also report any suspicious behaviour so as to pre-empt such heinous acts.
Sena and the three surviving kids are said to be greatly traumatised as neighbours and relatives reportedly keep coming to their house to console them.
