Don’t even think of it: No Ghanaian Artiste can do without the media – Keche

kesThroughout this week, the focus of www.233times.net is on how Ghanaian Celebrities perceive the media; whether in their career, the media has been fair or unfair to them. Reggie Rockstone has had his take on it in our previous reportage and Keche take their turn.

Speaking to www.233times.net , Kechepa, the taller of the duo spoke on behalf of the duo; “without the media, no Artiste in Ghana would be heard, I mean we can never ever get close to our fans because the media is doing so much for Ghanaian Artistes especially Keche. The media are doing so much because we are in Accra, we are doing well in Ghana as a whole but it’s only the media who can take whatever is going on in Keche’s life to Takoradi, Kumasi and across the boundaries. So without the media we can never get closer to our fans so to me the media is doing so well” Kechepa on how the Ghanaian media is doing.

There were arguments that social media of Celebrities are enough to channel their works to their fans and asking Kechepa, he argued that “I don’t believe that because I just heard Herty Borngreat has 1 million likes on Facebook but is she the most talked about Gospel Artiste in Ghana? Is she most talked about Musician in Ghana? You understand? So I don’t think when you have like 1 million likes out of 25 million Ghanaians will they only make your song popular? Everyone (Celebrities) really needs the media; their support, their push and everything. So I don’t think the Facebook and Twitter followers can make you bigger and get your works out there like you want it to. After God, you really need the media”

Touching on Sarkodie’s ‘Free Press’ song, Kechepa told www.233times.net  “Sarkodie started at Adom FM, Adom FM is also a media platform that he used to wherever he is now, the same as Fuse ODG, I know Fuse personally, my first time in UK I saw Fuse while he was pushing ‘Azonto’ and it is the media in Ghana who made the song popular and they started putting his pictures on the net and videos everywhere for people to know more about Fuse. So I believe after your prayers and everything, you need the media to put your songs out there because to be honest, without the media, no Artiste in Ghana would be heard even in Togo or Nigeria.”

According to Kechepa, the Ghanaian media have been very supportive to Keche using their performance at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in Nigeria as an epitome. He said friends outside Ghana contacted him from UK to congratulate him on the performance with J. Martins, Flavour etc and he was marveled because there were no Ghanaian media there but the message was carried by Ghanaian media to the world.

He advised Ghanaian Artistes to do their best and let the media do the rest and warned that,” anything you do the media will say it so let’s do our best for them to also talk best about us.”
