Akua Donkor asks why her advice at Senchi Forum trashed and shares how Mahama should run Ghana

9ebe0ee2ebf150b7860dc2643ca7f7fa_LThe 2012 Presidential Candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor, says Ghana is not a country that should be in such a difficult economic situation.

She said Ghana abounded with a lot of resources and should not be in economic crisis, adding that she had solutions to the current economic downturn that the country was going through.

Madam Donkor stated this in an interview with the Daily Graphic yesterday when she visited the offices of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd in Accra.

Speaking in Twi, Madam Donkor indicated that she gave a lot of advice at the Senchi Economic Forum organised in June by the government but all her advice had fallen on deaf ears.

Her vision

She advised that Ghana should develop rail transport for easy movement of foodstuffs from the hinterland to other areas.

She also said there was the need to stop people from operating in the ‘black market’ (forex), as this would help stabilise the cedi against the major trading currencies.

She said with the country’s wealth in oil, cocoa, gold, bauxite, timber and even stones, governors of the state had no excuse to let the country run into debts.

2012 Campaign promise

Madam Donkor reiterated her 2012 campaign promise of free education from the primary to the secondary level and insisted that the country’s gold, salt, shea butter and cocoa should be enough to educate all people of school age.

Gaddafi is her political icon and she believes that Ghana should be able to rub shoulders with Libya in terms of its oil production and sales. To Madam Donkor, it is unthinkable that the country exports raw oil and rather imports the finished product.

She said as an oil-producing country, the country should be able to refine its own oil so that it would help ease the cost on the ordinary Ghanaian.

Political career

Madam Donkor says she is re-strategising to contest again in 2016 and that this time nothing is going to stop her from entering the race.

She says she still had the vision to establish a free port for Ghanaians who import things into the country, as that is the only way to ensure that citizens who have  travelled outside and are doing well in their chosen professions will invest in the country.

As part of her preparations for the 2016 election, Madam Donkor says she is in the process of opening regional offices in all the 10 regions of the country.

So far she has been to Tamale, Bolgatanga and Wa, where she is at various stages of securing structures to house her party office.

Her next move is to secure office spaces in Accra, Ho and Cape Coast. She already has an office in Kumasi.

Offices for the other regional capitals such as Sunyani, Takoradi and Koforidua will  be secured before preparations for the 2016 elections begin.

Madam Donkor called on Ghanaians to try a woman as president for a change because a woman could help change the fortunes of the country for the better.
