The accused, Baffour Gyan, was said to have led an assault on the Ashanti Regional Editor of the Daily Graphic, Mr Daniel Kenu.
In the dock with him was Samuel Anim Addo, an errand boy of Asamoah Gyan. They both pleaded not guilty and the court, presided over by Mr William Boampong admitted them to bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties to be justified.
Baffour Gyan is alleged to have led an attack on Mr Kenu for asking Asamoah Gyan whether or not he had any responses to rumours that he used his friend, Castro, for ritual purposes.
Castro, the popular musician, who went missing with a female friend while jet-skiing at Ada, had gone to the holiday resort with Asamoah Gyan to have fun.
Baffour Gyan was said to have confronted Mr Kenu with an accusation that his question was distasteful and allegedly assaulted him.
A warrant was issued for his arrest, but the accused person turned himself in and was arrested by the police.
They are expected to re-appear before the court on Friday, September 12, 2014, for hearing.
Although the prosecution was ready to start the case, counsel for the accused persons, Messrs Augustus Anane Kweiba and Oheneba Kuffuor, pleaded with the court to adjourn the case for them to seek an out-of- court settlement.
They further pleaded with the court to admit their clients to bail since the offence committed was bailable.
They told the court that their clients were ready for an out-of-court settlement and expressed the hope that the parties involved would have reached an amicable settlement by the next adjourned date.
The prosecution, led by Superintendent of Police, Mr Emmanuel Akonnor, objected to the bail application and told the court that the accused persons committed the offence with others who were at large and granting them bail would jeopardise the investigations of the police.
However, the presiding judge upheld the bail application.
In granting the bail, Mr Boampong said he took into consideration the merit of the prosecution claims and that of the defence and the fact that the police themselves had granted the accused persons police inquiry bail.
Earlier, the prosecution had told the court that on September 5, this year, while Mr Kenu was going through the process to acquire his media accreditation for the Ghana-Uganda match, the accused persons and others now at large attacked him and subjected to him severe beatings.
