Coach Kwesi Appiah SACKED!

Information reaching this medium at press time yesterday indicates that Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah, has been sacked with immediate effect.

The paper gathered also that a compensation package will be discussed with him at a meeting with officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) today.

Attempts by DAILY GUIDE SPORTS to contact officials of the GFA to confirm or deny the story were unsuccessful. Serbian trainer Milovan Rajevac, who arrived in the country last Monday, is expected to take over as coach of the senior national team.

Indications are that the expatriate coach will pocket a colossal fee in the region of $50,000 per month as salary, which would be announced today at the GFA secretariat.

Earlier, it was rumoured that Milovan Rajevac, who led Ghana to the quarter finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, was coming in as a
technical advisor for the Black Stars.

Aside the serious issues of player discipline that characterized Ghana’s participation at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Kwesi Appiah’s failure to see Ghana past the Group stage of the tournament – the very first in the
country’s World Cup history – is linked to his expulsion.

Under his direction, the Black Stars struggled to draw with their Ugandan counterparts last Sunday in Kumasi, but he revised his notes and guided the team to a 3-2 win over their Togolese counterparts on Wednesday in Lome.

The former Black Stars and Asante Kotoko captain, who deputized for Milovan Rajevac in the 2010 World Cup, remains the first Ghanaian trainer to have qualified the Black Stars for the Word Cup.

Appiah, under whose watch players like Abdul Majeed Waris, Rabiu Mohammed, Wakaso Mubarak, Jordan Ayew and Solomon Asante among others gained national callups, took over from another Serbian manager Goran Stevanovic (Plavi) after the African Cup of Nations in 2012.
