Richard Anane is a liar; I’m not fighting ex-President John Kufuor – Nana Addo

1.1845982-620x330Nana Akufo-Addo, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has condemned comments made by Dr Richard Anane which implied that he [Nana Addo] was the cause of the seeming friction between him and ex-President John Kufuor.

He described the comment as “aimed solely at rewriting history based on fabrications they have been manufactured.”

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Richard Anane during  Alan Kyeremanten’s campaign launch said, “in 1998, Nana Akufo-Addo sought to force the elected flagbearer of the party, John Agyekum Kufuor, to step down for him.”

According to him, Nana Addo’s team approached the party leadership with the reason that John Kufuor was not in good health therefore, leading the party is such a condition could have dire consequences.

He implied that the move back then created “tension and enmity” between the two till now.

Meanwhile, a press released signed by Eugene Arhin, Press Secretary  to Nana Akufo-Addo, stated that “for the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state that the statements being peddled are wholly untrue.”

“These attempts to rewrite history and fabricate issues from 16 years ago, hopefully to prop up the campaign of a presidential aspirant, are reprehensible and must be condemned in no uncertain terms,” the released stated.

A former Mayor of Accra, Nii Adjiri Blankson has also asked supporters of the NPP to treat  Richard Anane’s comments as “a bag of rubbish.”

Dr. Richard Anane

He said “he knows what he is saying is a bag of rubbish. He knows it. And why should he even have the guts to implicate me. Is it because I am serving in some important position. Why is this happening to us. Senior members of the party who should know better. You said this at the rally and then you carried it over the weekend and you expect me to keep quite when my name has been brought into disrepute.”

Adjiri Blankson also described the allegation by Dr Anane as “callous and diabolical.”
