Is “a shame” for board chairman of ECG to resign – Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby

d9c5df3599a0e8014af9b8b920ff6896_LA former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby has expressed disappointment over the resignation of the board chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Tony Oteng Gyasi.

According to him, Mr Tony Oteng Gyasi’s resignation is untimely especially in the current situation where the country is being faced with erratic power supply.

Mr Oteng Gyasi this week tendered in his resignation letter to President Mahama but the President is yet to respond.

Mr Oteng Gyasi who is also the Managing Director of Tropical Cables and Conductors Limited cited health reasons for his resignation.

But speaking on Citi FM Friday morning, Dr Wereko-Brobby said, “I don’t know the reason why the chairman has resigned but in an era of substantial power crisis I think it is a real shame.”

Describing Mr Oteng Gyasi as an accomplished man, Dr Wereko-Brobby said, “The chairman of ECG is an accomplished man in his own right. He was the first man to build a cable facility to ISO standard in the whole sub-saharan Africa. So it is not a mere of achievement or a mere person we are dealing with. He is not one of the known board chairman that was appointed from party cronies.”

“I don’t know what party he votes for but for the fact that he was made chairman of the University of Ghana and chairman of ECG by NDC shows that the calibre of the man is good. So it is a major blow for ECG and Ghana and I’m not sure why it happened now,” he added.
