The office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer aspirant, Alan Kyeremanten has said his supporters who have recently defected to his opponent, Nana Akufo-Addo are doing so under the influence of money.
Some known supporters of Alan Kyeremanteng have recently declared their support for the 2012 flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo over what they term his proven track record.
This is ahead of the October 18 National Delegates Congress to elect a flagbearer for the party.
A spokesperson for Alan Kyeremanteng, Philip Longdon told Citi News the campaign team is observing the development and strategizing appropriately against what it terms “propaganda moves” from Akufo Addo’s camp.
“…Our people are being made aware of what is going on, the monies that are changing hands and the kind of inducement and enticement that are going on to get people to vote in a particular way, and people are seeing how they’ve been betrayed by certain leaders of the party,” Mr. Longdon stated.
The 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo cruised to victory in the first of the party’s primaries for the presidential candidate at the Super Delegates Congress.
Out of 741 ballots cast, Nana Akufo-Addo polled 598 votes representing 81.28 percent of total votes cast while his closest contender, Alan Kyerematen obtained 59 votes representing 8.01 percent.
Former Minister of Finance under the erstwhile Kufuor-led NPP government, Yaw Osafo-Marfo, has said that results of the 2010 presidential primary and the August 31 Special Electoral College show clearly that Nana Akufo-Addo is the overwhelming choice of NPP delegates at all levels of the party’s organization.
