Saturdays 4:00pm on TV3 is not ‘so good’ a time for celebrities as they have cold sweats under their armpits watching the gossip monger, Babie unravel rumours coded in gossips. Whose gossip is in the ‘Babie-bag’ is a mystery until the 30 minutes show finally ends to know who, when and how of the whole story.
TV3 Hot Gossip which reveals the other side of celebrities, making fans and followers of stars know up-to-date information about what their idols are up to has been misinterpreted by many as a show which aims at destroying careers. In an interview with www.233times.net, the Krobo Girls Old student, Bridget Babie Dapaah who on TV is known as Babie, expressed profound shock when this question came up. “People call you a career destroyer, how true is this?” Babie, who for the first time of hearing this rumour answered with staggering look, “Wow, this is the newest one, I’ve not heard about that one. I always say that, I came to meet an industry that was already built, been behind the scenes, watching them, admiring them and loved what they did. I will not and I will never even try to mess up anyone’s career because I also have a career to protect so saying something about somebody doesn’t mean you are messing up their career”
In a long explanation as to the denigration of celebrities, Babie further clarified that, since negatives sell more than positives, most people remember her for the negative ‘tear rubbers’ and not the positive ones. She has used her platform to applaud and promote celebrities in Ghana but many people least remember that and always have the negatives in mind. Her presence on TV has always been branded with the pre idea of an eloquent lady whose annoying laughter and her media friendly voice reveals the bad side of celebrities.
Not only on Ghanaian Celebrities but all across the world, Beyonce, D’Banj, Rihanna among others have had their ‘mockery’ on TV3 Hot Gossip. The show which is viewer friendly to all ages has attracted all eye balls in the country because of how interesting the Kwahu Lady, Babie presents. “I always tell them to cover and cover it well cos when I have it…….” Babie, the don’t-spare-the-gossip presenter cautioned celebrities.
“My show, Hot Gossip is not there to tint anybody’s career or paint anybody black, it is an entertainment programme which is to make you have fun, makes you know about stuff, you know, just this filla filla stuff. It is a way of putting me right and putting them right as well, it’s there to make good and not the bad” Babie ended with these words.
