PHOTO: Fake WAEC officer arrested

grabbedThe  Kasoa District Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old teacher for defrauding some persons under the pretext of helping them to secure admission to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) through protocol.

Issah Kabiru Gerard, who claimed to be a staff of the Text and Administration Department of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), allegedly collected GH¢3,450.00 from each victim.

Four victims, who have since reported the matter to Kasoa and Winneba Police, also gave the fake receipts and admission letters issued to them by suspect to the police.

Kabiru was nabbed at his hideout at Blue Top Estate area by the Kasoa police upon a tip-off.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, DSP Naa Musa, the Kasoa District Crime Officer, said the police received reports from two victims that they had been defrauded by the suspect.

According to reports, Issa Kabiru Gerard, who claimed to be a teacher at Ganan Media College, introduced himself as a staff of WAEC and told the victims that he could assist them to get admission to KNUST through protocol.

Suspect then asked the victims to pay an amount of GH¢3,450.00 after which he gave them receipts and protocol admission notice to go to the university.

On reaching the school, the victims were informed by the authorities that the forms were fake.

The Kasoa Police apprehended the suspect on September 30, 2014.

Upon interrogation, Kabiru confessed that he downloaded the forms on the internet and gave them to the victims after signing them.

While investigations were ongoing, the Winneba Police also urged the Kasoa Station to release the suspect to them to assist in investigations in a similar case.

Kabiru has been charged with falsely pretending to be a public officer, defrauding by false pretence and forgery of documents.

The suspect would be sent to court today after which he would be handed over to the Winneba Police
