I was in Adisadel College form 2 when a mate fell ill. He refused to go for exeat to go to the hospital or home for treatment. His condition became critical that, the house prefect had to intervene to get the exeat for him. The stout housemaster who was undeniably stingy in issuing exeats called for ‘Odogee’ to be brought to his house by the house prefect for assessment before issuing the exeat . Upon seeing him, the housemaster was even scared how severe the condition of ‘Odogee’ has become. He asked him “why haven’t you come for exeat to go home or the hospital?” Odogee’s answer was, “the seniors said even if I come, you won’t give me the exeat so I shouldn’t worry myself.”
This answer got the former Quaque housemaster infuriated “Stupid! Did you come to me and I denied you? Did you ask the senior what brought him here that I denied him the exeat? You are an asthmatic and you think I will deny you upon seeing your condition? Stupid, have you come here personally for an exeat? Stupid!” Odogee’s answer got Mystic, as he is nicknamed angry instead of compassionate.
The media is inundated with absurd rumours, well written and presented to consumers who believe anything which is emitted from their radios and TVs. I won’t blame anyone who doesn’t probe news when heard because maybe we might have been a little luckier to be educated and blessed with the spirit of discernment. Again, illiteracy rate in Ghana is more than 45%.
As a student of Politics, taught by Dr. Aggrey Darko, Dr. Gyampo. Dr. Kwesi Jonah, I was eye opened to have a different view of how politicians could be mischievous. After all, if you mount a stage as a politician, you need to tell the people what they want to hear, regardless of how feasible they are. If that is not working and your opponent seems to be flooring you, you stain his/her reputation. No one wants an arrogant leader or a womanizer president so telling them that would obviously poke them to review their choices.
It is time for Ghanaians to ask questions when the propaganda secretaries (a position which shouldn’t be encouraged in Ghana politics) come on air to speak their blankness often prefixed by “I stand to be corrected.” If there would be any form of confusion in Ghana in the near future (God forbid though), it would be from the seeds the serial callers and the propaganda secretaries are steadfastly planting now. As a propaganda secretary or serial caller, one is preoccupied with harbouring lies and deceit to taint the reputation of the opponent and as they are given GHC30 – GHC50 worth of call credit (varies from party to party depending on which government is in power) weekly to call the various radio stations, as determined sycophants, they will have to impress their bosses who are the Vampires in Power (VIPs).
I have heard so many people saying Nana Akufo-Addo is arrogant without giving any epitome to support that claim. I asked a friend why he keeps saying Prez. Mahama is a womanizer and he said “but u no dey hear am on radio?,” this is a graduate from the prestigious University of Ghana who graduated with a second class honours (upper division) in Philosophy (major) and Sociology (minor). I was wondering the answer my Auntie at Effiakuma Newsite who does not have a classmate will give me when asked same question.
If any of these war mongers is heard on media spewing all sorts of nonsense and you have credit, let us ask them to give instances because from the way our country is being ‘mis’managed, from the head of state to the very last person on the ladder, posterity will insult this current generation for being too lousy and acting like carpets. Already there is no clear picture if Ghana is progressing or retrogressing since the past of the country is brighter than the present.
Obviously not everyone would get access to meet these great men to ask them questions about what the media is saying about them but we should begin to ask those who present to us questions to convince us that, what they are asserting is really what it is and not for any political points. We need to be tough to make them careful of their utterances and know that, Ghanaians aren’t just any people who swallow anything given them without probing.
Why do you say that? What did he do for you to conclude that? Do you know him personally? Where did you hear him saying that? When did you see him? among others, are the questions we should start asking because we are being taken for fools for so long a time.
