A Ghanaian Medical Doctor at the centre of a sodomy scandal, Dr. Sulley Ali-Gabass has told Starr News’ Western Regional Correspondent Emmanuel Ohene Gyan that suicidal thoughts run through his mind after a story broke that he serially sodomised a young boy and infected him with HIV.
Dr Ali-Gabass, who practices at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital in Takoradi was accused by the 16-year-old Senior High School student of anal rape on five occasions, as well as intentionally infecting him with HIV per an investigative report by Joy FM’s Mannasseh Awuni Azure.
The unnamed minor is currently on admission at the Korle Bu Teaching hospital following a resultant anal infection.
However, speaking to Correspondent Ohene Gyan in an exclusive interview at his private clinic, Dr Ali-Gabass said the allegations were “pure lies”.
“I’m very much surprised to hear such an allegation, I’m a medical doctor and as you know the nature of our work is such that we keep ourselves very healthy. HIV tests are conducted routinely at the hospital and I myself I checked every month, so I don’t see how someone could put such a story out there”, he insisted.
Dr Ali-Gabass, who admitted knowing the boy in question, however, denied ever having sexual relations with him.
“No, no, no! There hasn’t been any sexual intercourse between the two of us. What I know is that anytime am going to Accra, I meet him at Kasoa and he sits down in my car and I advise him and then he gets down and I go back to my house. That’s what I know”.
He said the story had affected his family and friends negatively and dented his image and reputation. He told Ohene Gyan he was getting depressed by the situation and was contemplating taking his life because of the burden of the scandal.
