The 59-year-old trainer emerged the most outstanding among three candidates interviewed recently by the GFA at the Alisa Hotel in Accra for the vacant Black Stars job and the Israeli is already relishing the prospects of coaching one of the most exciting teams in the world today.

Three days after GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi at a press conference named Grant as the most preferred choice for the Stars job, the experienced Israeli coach has accepted the challenge to manage Ghana even before concluding on terms with the FA in the coming days.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports on telephone yesterday, Avram Grant’s agent Saif Rubie, said at the moment his client’s ambition was “to make Ghana one of the biggest powerhouses of world football.”

According to Rubie, Grant felt honoured and privileged to be considered for the Stars job and was looking forward to some exciting times with the talent-filled Ghana team.

He admitted that coaching the Stars was a big challenge, especially working in Africa for the first time but gave an assurance that his client would face up to it.

Mr Nyantakyi revealed to the Graphic  Sports yesterday that the FA would engage Coach Grant to finalise discussions on his remuneration and other details after Ghana’s two Africa Nations Cup qualifiers with Uganda and Togo in Kampala and Tamale on Saturday and next Wednesday respectively.

The FA boss explained that if the two parties fail to reach an agreement, then the FA would fall on Spanish coach, Juan Ignicio Jimenez, who ranked second during the interview.
