NDC youth arrested with gun

A youth activist of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhassan Adams, 28, who resides at Adoagyiri-Nsawam in the Eastern Region, has been arrested by the Nsawam Police Command for allegedly pulling a gun on a food vendor.

The incident took place during the Regional NDC congress held at St. Martins SHS, Nsawam on Saturday.

According to reports, the suspect approached a rice seller and forcibly demanded food from her.

Eyewitnesses told DAILY GUIDE that when the food vendor asked the suspect to pay, he unexpectedly pulled a pistol from his pocket and placed it on the neck of the woman, who shouted to draw the attention of the police.

NDC Chairman Reacts

According to reports, the suspect was wearing a T-shirt with the portrait of Bismark Tawiah Boateng, the newly-elected chairman of the party in the region.

However, William Atamudzi, Constituency chairman of Adoagyiri/Nsawam told the media that the suspect was an activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said that the suspect stole the T-shirt, adding that his outfit would ensure that the suspect faces the law.

Police Intervention

The Nsawam Police Commander, Superintendent Kamkam Boadi, on his part, told the media that the suspect was currently in the police custody assisting in investigations.

Supt. Kamkam noted that Alhassan was holding a toy gun, which he got from goods imported by his brother.

NDC Congress

About 332 delegates, comprising 10 ministers, 26 Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), seven Members of Parliament (MPs), party’s founders, constituency and incumbent regional executives of the NDC in the Eastern Region took part in the congress and elected 14 officers out of 64 contenders.

Bismark Tawiah Boateng, who was elected as the new regional chairman, polled 129 votes to  beat his challengers, John Owusu Amankwah with 106 votes, Oheneba Kissi (37 votes) and the former acting regional chairman, Alhaji Sumaila Mahama, who garnered 49 votes.

The delegates elected Samuel Adjei, Alias Abigi, Stella Ansah as Vice Chairpersons.

Kevor Mark Oliver and Franics Annor Dompreh were elected Secretary and Deputy Secretary respectively.

Hackman Seidu won the deputy organizer position, while Ransford Owusu Boakye, the current regional NADMO coordinator was elected as organizer.

Baba Jamal Awal and Emmanuel Serlom were elected Propaganda Secretary and Deputy Propaganda Secretary respectively.

Aziz Mohammed polled 100 votes to beat three other contenders to become the treasurer while the deputy treasurer position also went to Emmanuel Senu.

Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, Mavis Ama Frimpong, Nana Oye Lithur, Dr. Omane Boamah, Baba Jamal, Joe Appiah, Joseph Amankwano, Okailetey Tei Larbi, Julius Debrah, Betty Mould Idrrisu, Anita Desoso, Solomon Nkansah, James Asante, among others, were in attendance.
