Blame KWESI APPIAH not the Black Stars Players

Kwesi Appiah, Ghana Black Stars Coach
Kwesi Appiah, Ghana Black Stars Coach

I was one of the hand full loud mouths tirelessly pushing for a Ghanaian Coach for Ghana Black Stars, the Senior National Football Team of Ghana. After all ‘Adzi wo fie a Oyie’ meaning it’s a great feeling to have your very own. This Article is based on my opinion of which I am highly entitled to.

“AFCON 2013 was a certain win for Ghana”, which was the mantra of all Ghanaians even with a doubting –confidence in the ex left back player, Kwesi Appiah. Honestly, my support for Kwesi Appiah was not that of a ‘yoo man’ type but try-and-error-to-shame-haters.  I would have done anything to bet on him as the best Coach to handle Ghana Black Stars but thank God no one contended me on that.

I am not much of a football fanatic but at least I try as much as possible not to miss out on any football match between Ghana and other States.

Honestly I have not been inundated in shame like this Derby.  With the selection of players made by Kwesi Appiah for the AFCON 2013, confidence was the only feeling that could be filled in the spirits of Ghanaians but Kwesi Appiah, my name sake, really turned all Ghanaians down.

208403hp2Obviously everyone makes mistakes but Kwesi Appiah’s in this tournament was grave. Although anytime Black Stars has a match, 24 million people Coach the team with scads of ‘should have done this-should have done that’ but this time, the goofs were clear for even JHS students to ask Kwesi Appiah via their TV “why is this player on the bench, why this late substitute, why this formation” and so on and endlessly on.

From on set, all the Pyrrhic victories that sent the team to the Semi-Finals were gracious ones, probably from the continuous prayers of Archbishop Duncan Williams or Bishop Dag Heward Mills because honestly, Ghana did not deserve a win in any of them.

The 3rd place match between Ghana and Mali vividly demonstrated why Kwesi Appiah should be given the force resignation letter at the Kotoka International Airport upon the arrival of the Team. Indeed you might have the best ingredients but if you do not know how to mix them up, you will not have a perfect meal. Having a balanced ingredient is not a guarantee of a perfect meal; all will depend on the chef who will mix them. Chef Kwesi Appiah could not make soup out of crabs.

If Ghana would want to have a good reputation in Brazil in 2014 World Cup, the name Kwesi Appiah should be taken out of Ghana Football Association (GFA) official list. His spectacular incompetence at the AFCON 2013 is enough for us to be fed up with him; no room should be given again for further zenith disgraces. He should be added as an advisor rather than a Coach.

”Ex-Ghana international Albert Essuman says Black Stars Coach Kwesi Appiah should be given ample time to put together a formidable squad that could challenge for trophies in competitive tournaments” Ghana Web reportered after the disgraceful match between Ghana and Mali where Ghana was scored 3 goals to a consoling 1 from skipper Kwadwo Asamoah. “Ample time to put together……..” where ample time means? More loses? 5 years? After 10 Tournaments? Isn’t all the matches in AFCON 2013 ample?

“If you go to a Mohel for circumcision and you change your mind, you do not leave your under wear with him”. So if Ghana Black Stars was not able to face Super Eagles of Nigeria in the finals, why would we stylishly drag the name of the country in the mud in the 3rd place match? All the goals against Ghana were defence errors of which Kwesi Appiah, a more professional footballer than a Coach was ‘unrecognisingly’ watching the game without any fault-find. Aaahba! Kwesi Appiah, do you need a lens? I recommend Amasha Opticals.

Most people watching the match were pointing fingers at the players for a poor performance but until I started watching football games with football enthusiast, I did not recognize that, the substitution of a player could change a football match. Kwesi Appiah should have changed Asamoah Gyan long before he became irrelevant in the match but he never did and should have made some corrections but……….

I will befriend Radio on Monday preferably Krokrokooo Morning Show on Peace FM, Adom Adwaso Nsem, Joy Breakfast Show and listen to comment on the AFCON 2013 to get more interesting contributions from supporters of the Black Stars.

Criticisms had started already on the Social Media during and after the football match of which Kwesi Appiah’s name was on a repeated mention in all updates.

Enough of the blame on the players, attack the chef who could not use the ingredients well.

This is an ULGY TRUTH.
