5409c4f8ebbeade8b17c188aab8945ef_LA 20-year-old father of two, Joseph Yaw Nkrumah, allegedly murdered one of his children and dumped the body in a pit latrine at Akyem Asuboa South, near Oda in the Eastern Region.

The suspect said he strangled the 21-month-old baby boy because his relatives and friends had been making mockery of him for fathering two children at his age.

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Akyem Oda, the Oda Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Mr James Sarfo-Peprah, said around 10 p.m. last Sunday, Nkrumah picked the baby boy, called George Kwaku Effah, from his wife and went outside the house with him to enjoy fresh air.

Apprehension

He said when Nkrumah returned to the bedroom late in the night without the baby, his wife who was apprehensive, demanded the whereabouts of her son.

According to Chief Supt Sarfo-Peprah, when Nkrumah failed to respond to the repeated questions about the whereabouts of the baby, she raised an alarm which attracted many people to the house, some of who arrested the suspect and sent him to the Akyem Manso Police Station.

He stated that during interrogation, Nkrumah confessed to the police that he had strangled the baby boy and dumped the body in a private pit latrine at Asuboa because his relatives and friends had been teasing him ceaselessly for having two children at his age, and that he could produce more than 10 children in the course of time.

The Divisional Police Commander said the suspect led the police to a private pit latrine at Asuboa where with the help of some youth the body of the boy was retrieved.

Meanwhile, Nkrumah has been placed in police custody at Oda pending further investigations into the matter while the corpse of the baby has been deposited at the mortuary of the Oda Government Hospital awaiting autopsy.
