Morocco has been banned from the next two editions of the Africa Cup of Nations after failing to host this year’s tournament.

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) also fined Morocco $1m (£650,000) and ordered it to pay 8m Euros (£5.9m) in damages.

Morocco had missed a deadline last year to make a final decision on whether or not it would host the tournament.

It had expressed concerns over the outbreak of the Ebola virus in Africa.

Equatorial Guinea was named a replacement host for the 16-team event, while Morocco – which had qualified as hosts – was expelled by Caf.

Morocco had asked for the tournament to be delayed until 2016, but this request was rejected.

Ghana and Ivory Coast contest this year’s final on Sunday.
