Tro-Tro-Station-in-Kumasi-550x412A 35-year-old man died instantly last week at Ashaiman, near Tema, when he fell from a commercial vehicle he was hanging on to demand a change of 20 pesewas.

The deceased, Razak Abdul Salifu, who resides at Newtown, a suburb of Ashaiman, was said to have disagreed with the driver, William Owusu, over the actual change due him after paying the fare.

When Salifu got down from the vehicle, he decided to hang onto it in an attempt to put pressure on the driver’s mate for the 20 pesewas changed allegedly due him.

However, the driver reportedly sped off with the victim hanging onto the vehicle’s driving mirror.

Salifu fell off and hit his head on the road. He died shortly after his body was deposited at the Tema General Hospital.

His body has since been released to the family for burial.

The driver subsequently reported himself to the Ashaiman police and is currently assisisting with investigations.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Afari Kwame Gyasi, Commander in-charge of the Ashaiman MTTD, told the Daily Guide the driver said the incident occurred on February 7, 2015 at about 10:45 pm when the deceased boarded his vehicle from the Madina Lorry Park in Accra to Ashaiman.

DSP Gyasi said there had been a minor altercation between the deceased and driver before the disagreement over the 20p change ensued.
