‘W?n gbo’ demonstration has encouraged me – Prez. Mahama

President John Mahama says the demonstration staged by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday over challenges facing the country, especially the power crisis, is an encouragement for him to do even more to address the problem.

Addressing a Ghanaian community in Gambia, President Mahama said his government is doing everything possible to end the worsening power crisis.

President Mahama admitted that every government has a role to play in improving the country’s challenges, adding that no particular administration should be blamed for the country’s power supply deficit.

The President’s comments are in sharp contrast to Power Minister Kwabena Donkor’s remarks about the February 18 protest march.

Dr Donkor had described the demonstration as a good exercise to keep fit.

Thousands of protestors took to the major streets of Accra on Wednesday in a bid to pressure government to solve problems facing the economy — the protest march was dubbed ‘w?n gbo’ demonstration, meaning ‘we are dying’.

Organisers of the protest, the NPP, has promised more of such protests.

Meanwhile the NPP has expressed its profound gratitude to the protesters, describing the exercise as a “historic street protest. ”

“We particularly thank the Ghana Police Service for their professionalism during the street protest, the media for their extensive coverage, the civil society, artisanal groups and other political parties for their impressive participation”, a release signed by party General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong said.

The NPP said government must be more responsible, and show leadership in solving the unending power crisis which has caused severe economic hardship on the of lives of Ghanaians.
