Wayne Rooney has mocked a front page story about being knocked out in his own kitchen during an on-field celebration at Old Trafford.
The United captain celebrated scoring a goal by throwing shadow punches and tumbling to the pitch on his back.
The theatrics came after The Sun on Sunday published a video showing Rooney engaging in a friendly boxing bout in his kitchen with Stoke City player Phil Bardsley.
The video showed the 29-year-old being punched in the head by Bardsley before falling to the floor.
Rooney was reportedly unhappy about the video being released to the public.
He told Sky Sports: “That’s the world we live in today, I think.
“It was a few mates in a private house, which has somehow managed to go on the front page of a national newspaper.”
Rooney added that the story had not distracted him from Manchester United’s clash against Tottenham on Sunday.
“I’ve been focused on the game. I think it (the story) is more interesting for other people rather than myself,” he said.
“You’ve seen today, I’ve done a professional job, got on with the game and helped this team win 3-0.”
