Waterville drags Ghana to International Court of Arbitration

Construction firm Waterville Holding Limited has dragged Ghana to the International Court of Arbitration seeking to challenge an order of the Supreme Court ordering it to pay back 25 million pounds judgment debt illegally paid them.
Former Attorney General Martin Amidu who dragged Waterville to court argued that the company had no contract with government but yet made claims for the payment of the money.
Waterville had filed a stay of proceedings in the High Court in November 2013 but the court dismissed it.
The construction company was in 2013 ordered by the Supreme Court to return to the state monies it obtained illegally out of claims it brought against the state in 2009.
Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Dominic Ayine who confirmed this to Citi News said they have filed a counter memorial and are waiting for a reply from Waterville Holding Limited after which a date for hearing will be set by the International Court of Arbitration.
