The Western Region New Patriotic Party, NPP, has proved that it is poised and very united to win more parliamentary seats and contribute the needed quota for victory in the 2016 general elections, as after the close of nominations for the Party’s Parliamentary Primaries, 13 aspirants from 13 out of the 26 Constituencies in the Region are standing unopposed. These include 5 incumbent MPs and 1 Constituency Chairman. In all, 56 people picked nomination forms and 52 commprising 4 females and 48 males filed at close of nomination. They include 7 out of the 8 incumbent MPs, 3 Constituency Chairmen, 1 former MP, 2 former DCEs, 10 2012 Parliamentary Candidates and 8 former aspirants. Prestea-Huni Valley Constituency has the highest number of aspirants – 8, Amenfi East follows with 6, Ahanta West – 4, Jomorro – 3 and Shama, Kwesimintsim, Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Amenfi Central, Suaman, Juaboso, Sefwi Akontombra and Sefwi Wiawso Constituencies have 2 aspirants each.
The Regional Executive Committee (REC) is pleased with the work of the Constituency Executive Committees so far, it is hoped that they will maintain their neutral roles and abide by the guidelines governing the Parliamentary Primaries. REC hopes all 52 aspirants will pass vetting and those in the 13 Constituencies where there will be contests will embark on a campaign that will bring unity and hope to our members and the people of the constituencies. All is set for the vetting of the aspirants at three (3) centres within the Region from Wednesday, May 6 to Friday, May 8, 2015.
