NDC is worst gov’t ever – PPP

d642517fa20cedd66103e20a68d6e3da_L-620x330The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has described the governing National Democratic Congress(NDC) as the worst in the country’s history.

The party’s National Chairman, Allotey Hammond told Citi News that the party’s conclusion is based on the current economic challenges bedeviling the country.

“…governments have come and underperformed but this one takes the kick of underachievement … When have you ever seen those in the arts, movie makers, Artistes coming out to demonstrate? This is the first time, things are not going well,” he said. The PPP’s criticism against the Mahama-led administration comes days after the Catholic Bishops Conference took a swipe at the NDC for failing to resolve the energy crisis and other economic challenges. The Bishops noted in a communiqué after their meeting in Accra, Saturday, that high cost of goods and services coupled with a depreciating Cedi is making Ghana’s economy “fast becoming one of buying and selling.”

“Unbearably high taxes are causing many nascent private businesses to fold up. At the same time, we are not seeing aggressive efforts to set up more industries to take care of rising youth unemployment and low levels of development,” the communiqué signed by Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu, Bishop of Konongo-Mampong and President, Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, indicated.

The Bishops also spoke about the National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS), saying “the continuous and repeated failure to reimburse facilities on time, the incessant threats of service withdrawal by service providers, among others, continue to plague the Scheme.”
