These 4 signs don’t actually mean he’s cheating

041a9f2e_shutterstock_257694895.xxxlarge_2xThe fear of cheating can turn some women into super-sleuths, overanalysing every missed call, mood swing, and physical change only to come to the inevitable conclusion their men are stepping out.

But the truth is, some things simply aren’t signs of cheating—and it’s way better to see them for what they really are than let them lead to a blowout, knock-down fight over fake infidelity. Here are four signs that actually don’t point to him cheating, and why.

He’s let your calls roll to voice mail, twice. The little voice in your head might be screaming “he’s having sex with another woman,” but let’s be real—it’s more likely he flipped his phone to vibrate and passed out on the couch to an old Simpsons episode. Seven calls and two days’ worth of radio silence? Now that’s cause for concern—and maybe a search party.

He’s moody. Fact: Guys can get cranky, irritable, sad, and teary-eyed too. That he shows off a little extra emotion here or there doesn’t mean he’s hiding a full-blown affair. Other non-cheating culprits could be work-related stress, a headache that won’t take a hint, or a financial fumble that’s causing him to freak. So don’t assume his snappy ‘tude can be traced back to another woman, and instead simply ask, “Is everything OK? You’ve seemed upset lately.”

He’s hitting the gym, hard. Sure, he could be trying to shed a few extra pounds to look fine for a new female friend—but he also could have finally realized all that former bachelor-life beer and greasy food hasn’t exactly helped his heart. One guy we know snagged a gym membership after watching a single TV commercial about cholesterol! So celebrate his newfound healthfulness until he gives you a reason to believe it’s anything but.

His sexual appetite changes. Unfortunately for us all, sex slumps are real. Stress, family drama, money problems, and our health can call a time out when it comes to sexy time. If your man was once ravenous for your body but now seems content with a nibble here or there, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s gorging on a buffet of sex acts elsewhere. Suggest some ways to spice things up—we’ve got 11 tips to get your started—and see what happens.
