“When I asked, I was told that my brother was asleep by then,” says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Paul Afoko, as he strenously denied his brother’s involvement in an acid attack on the Upper East Regional chair of the party.
Gregory Afoko, younger brother of Afoko has been accused as one of the two assailants who poured the corrosive liquid on Adam Mahama on Wednesday evening, leading to his death.
He died Thursday morning as he was being prepared to be transferred from the Bolgatanga Central Hospital to Accra for further treatment.
Boyaa Mohammed, sister of the Upper East Regional Chairman indicated the National Chairman and General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong of being responsible for the attack.
An aide to the late chairman Usman Zakaria, is also reported to have told the media that before the late chairman was sent to the hospital, he named the younger brother of Paul Afoko as one of the attackers.
But speaking on Adom FM, Mr. Afoko said that his checks from his home in the Upper East region indicated that his brother was fast asleep at the time the incident happened.
He said the accusation made by Adam’s sister is unfortunate after praying for the soul of the dead chairman.
Afoko further called on the elephant fraternity to end all forms of violence in the party since the party was not founded on violence.
