It’s about time: Oil City needs to name their genre of music

This article was inspired by a publication I read on YFM’s website authored by Kwame Scientific with the headline ‘The new genre of music in the Oil City.’ He wrote about his observation of a new genre sprouting in Takoradi and how best some Artistes are doing it which I strongly agree with his observations.

Names like Singlet, Afedzi Perry, Sayvee, Nero X, Ayesem and others are doing a genre of music which has not been named yet. The genre is a cocktail of Highlife, Christian rap with typical Tadi jargons as a huge wave swamp and epitomes include ‘Ossey’ by Nero X, ‘Wei soh’ by Sayvee, ‘ ‘By Force’ by Singlet all which have resemblance with ‘Adonai,’ Castro ft Sarkodie.

For some years now, the Sekondi-Takoradi, nicknamed Oil City is missing in the national music scene and the mysterious disappearance of Castro left Sekondi-Takoradi musically orphan. Even though there have been a lot of efforts by Nero X, Sayvee, Ayesem amongst others to get a national hit, they have not been successful yet.

The only way to get the Oil City back on the national music scene is to name this genre of music, brand it and sell it to the world in an appetizing way. I could confidently posit that, the Artistes in the Oil City are ready for national hits and could battle the strong names making waves in the country after following the works of the Artistes from the Western Region

This publication is to poke the stakeholders in the Oil City to quickly think of a name and tag it via all the media available to get a national footprint in Ghana music.
