robber-2-620x400An alleged armed robber yesterday fainted at the Cocoa Affairs Court premises when she was refused bail by the court.

The suspect, Joycelyn Pupulampu, who is standing trial for robbery and causing unlawful harm, pleaded not guilty but was refused bail by the Accra Circuit Court presided over by his honour Aboagye Tandoh.

When she was being led away to continue her police remand, Joycelyn collapsed on the ground. Several attempts by the police to resuscitate her failed. She was therefore taken to the hospital.

Presenting the facts of her case on behalf of Chief Inspector Yeboah before the incident occurred, Inspector Georgina told the court that on 3rd August, 2015 at about 3:00pm, the police headquarters operational unit received a distress call that a gang of robbers had snatched a private Saloon car from the owner at gunpoint at East Legon, a suburb of Accra.

Inspector Georgina further told the court that the robbers escape with the car and that information was immediately relayed to the national SWAT unit to track down the said robbers.

According to Inspector Georgina, the patrol team from the national SWAT unit, in charge of the East Legon area, chased the said robbers and spotted a Sonata Saloon car with registration number GY 600-13 around Adjiringanor. Inspector Georgina added that the patrol team ordered them to stop but they defied and sped off, compelling the police to pursue them.

According to the officer, the suspected robbers caused damages to several vehicles due to their reckless driving and knocked down and ran over one motor rider, identified as Fauster Dedu, on board a Kawasaki eliminator 600 motorbike with registration number NO.M_14 GR 2727 GH, causing grievous bodily harm him.

She said the patrol team managed to arrest Joycelyn Pupulampu who was on board the car, but the other three male occupants escaped.

The trial judge remanded the accused person to police custody and adjourned the case to 20th August, 2015.
