THE KUMASI police are holding a 16-year-old boy, Michael Owusu, suspected to be one of a two-man robbery gang, who usually pretended to be fighting in public to catch the attention of innocent people, whom they ended up robbing at knife-point.

Owusu, who is a school dropout and his accomplice, Collins Appiah, 22, unemployed, allegedly used the well-rehearsed strategy to lure one Michael Kwofie, a nutritionist, into a house at Bohyen where they robbed him of GH¢120.

The duo, after the incident which occurred on August 1, this year, went into hiding but the police later managed to arrest Owusu who led them to nab Appiah, following a complaint made to the police by the nutritionist.

Addressing the media, DCOP Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, revealed the modus operandi of the teenagers.

At about 3:30 pm on August 1, 2015, the police officer indicated, the victim was buying kenkey at Bohyen Lorry Station when Owusu and Appiah appeared at the scene, seriously fighting over a non-functioning Motorola mobile phone and an amount of GH¢80.

The two suspected robbers told Kwofie that they played a card game and the eventual winner had resulted in the brawl between them so he (victim) should assist them to determine who indeed won the said game.

After agreeing to assist, the duo coerced Kwofie to rather follow them to a nearby house where the game was played so that the matter could be resolved amicably, and the victim obliged.

Upon reaching the said house at Bohyen in Kumasi, Appiah suddenly pulled a knife and ordered Kwofie to surrender everything on him peacefully; else he would be stabbed with the knife.

Before Kwofie, who was extremely frightened at that time could utter a word, the 16-year-old boy had removed his wallet from his pocket, took away an amount of GH¢120 in it and bolted with Appiah.

The two suspected robbers, whilst fleeing left behind the knife and the wallet so Kwofie took them and proceeded to the Suame Police Station to lodge a complaint.

The police rushed to Bohyen and managed to grab Owusu who led them to arrest Appiah.
