DISTURBING PHOTO: 2 boys drown

boy-620x400TWO PRIMARY school boys, Gyan Michael, 13, and Akwasi Anthony, also 13, reportedly drowned in stagnant water at Tintari, a village in the Atebubu-Amanteng District of the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The region has been beset by some tragedies in recent times. It started with a shooting incident in Tuobodom near Techiman where seven people were reported dead, followed by the weekend killing of three people, including the burning to death of a fetish priest, Efo Kojo, at Kwapong in the Asunafo South District.

The father of one of the deceased, whose name was given as Gyan, told a local radio station that the boys, class three and five pupils respectively,  were sent to go and give food to one of the boys’ mother who was on one of the family’s nearby farms.

When returning home after delivering the food, they reportedly saw a pool of stagnant water and wanted to wash their feet in it. They later decided to swim, oblivious of the fact that the water was deep.

In the course of the swimming, they were said to have gone missing until an announcement was made to look for them. Personnel from the Police and Fire Service were called in to retrieve the bodies from the stagnant water when the boys were found dead.
