Students who completed this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) are being given the opportunity to confirm the senior high schools they selected before final placements are made.
According to the Ghana Education Service (GES), the move is to help the students refresh their minds on the schools they selected.
In an interview with Citi News, the Deputy Director General of the GES, Stephen Adu said the decision forms part of measures to ensure a free and transparent placement for the 2015/2016 academic year.“Sometimes some of them have forgotten the schools they chose and then when we finish the placement then they will be complaining so this is one of the ways to check the four schools they selected,” he said.
The confirmation which will be via text messages will run from August to September, 2015.
Each candidate can text their index numbers to the short code 1060 followed by the last two (2) digits of the year of completion on the following networks MTN, Vodafone, Airtel, Tigo, and Kasapa.
This year’s BECE was characterized by massive leakage which led to the cancellation and subsequently, a re-write of some five papers.
