SHOCKS! NDC closes primaries in the Western Region amidst drama

oye-lithur-usockA considerable number of NDC faithfuls who are eyeing parliament seats in the Western Region worked against time to file their nominations before the September 10 deadline.

As at the close of nominations at 5pm on Thursday, September 10, about 98% of those who picked forms to contest in the November 7 primaries had filed their nominations Notable amongst them are popular Broadcaster Kwame Dzokoko who is eyeing the Tarkwa/Nsuam seat.

He’s being challenged by one Joseph Okyere. Sekondi/Takoradi Mayor, Capt (rtd) Anthony Cudjoe will be contesting in Sekondi along side a former regional minister, Betty Bosomtwe Sam and Emmanuel Assefuah, an Accountant with the Regional Lands Commission and one other candidates Armah Nyamekye Others are the deputy Western Regional Minister Alfred Ekow Gyan popularly known as Abott for Takoradi.

He’s also being challenged by one Janet Ansah, a 40 year old Takoradi based Trader Two persons filed in Effia. Mahmoud Ali, the immediate past Presiding member of the STMA and Michael Otoo, whilst 3 others filed at Essikadu/Ketan.

They are 3 time failed Aspirant Abbey Hart, Joseph Kofi Mensah and one Uncle Ato. 56 year old Agustine Arthur, a US based security expect will be going unopposed in the Kwesimintsim constituency after Francis Kasim Apuri who contested and lost on the ticket of the party in the 2012 elections failed to file his nomination forms this time round.

The incumbent MP for Shama Gabriel Kojo Essilfie will also be going unopposed in the primaries after a last minute redrawal by Nana Oye Lithur. The Gender and Social Protection minister caused a stir in the constituency after picking a form last Tuesday The filings in the Tarkwa/Nsuam constituency were without drama, as a group of women numbering about 20 locked up the constituency Women organiser to prevent her from filing her nominations.

The group led by one Gloria Minta claims the women organiser Madam Gladys Agyiri, wife of the late constituency chairman could better serve the Party with her current position. They also claim the women organiser should mourn her late husband for at least a year before she engages herself in such ventures. They opened her after close of nominations at around 7pm on Thursday.
