images-anas_exposes_mahama_670039090Ace, Ghanaian investigative journalist, Anas Amereyaw Anas, is to be honoured alongside President John Dramani Mahama and former President John Agyekum Kufuor at the fourth edition of the prestigious Millennium Awards slated for December 11 and 12 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi.

Fifteen personalities including Nigerian writer, Prof. Wole Soyinka, former UN secretary General, Kofi Annan, former world marathoner, Haile Gebrselassie, and the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Torgbe Afede XVI, will also be honoured.

One-time Ghana’s foreign minister who doubles as the President of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, said this when organisers of the Millennium Excellence Awards submitted the proposed list to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in Kumasi last Friday for his approval.

A 25-member team comprising governors and directors of the foundation called on the Asantehene, life patron of the foundation, to formally invite him and seek his ratification of the nominated personalities.

The award which recognises the contribution of outstanding personalities, who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavour, is held every five years.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu urged the team to go beyond the known faces and achievers and investigate and bring out those who might be in obscure places but whose contributions were impacting greatly on humanity.

The Asantehene said much as the project cut across every facet of human life, attention should be focused on agriculture and the sciences which had answers to human challenges.

“Oil cannot solve Ghana’s economic challenges, the solution lies with agriculture,” the Asantehene said, and urged them to help encourage people to add value to agricultural produce.

He advised the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), to engage other professionals in their bid to give Ghana a sustainable 40-year development plan.
