Be patient with Pres Mahama – First Lady pleads

lordina_mahamaThe First Lady, Lordina Mahama, has appealed to women to be patient with the Mahama administration whilst the President puts his government together. She said the government is only three months old and therefore cannot set out to resolve every challenge especially when all appointments have not been completed. She however promised them prosperity and good times ahead.

Mrs. Mahama made the appeal when she hosted over a hundred NDC Women Organizers from the Greater Accra region as well as executives of market women associations at a luncheon at her residence in Accra last Saturday. She thanked the women for the yeoman’s role they played in ensuring a one-touch victory for President Mahama and the NDC in last December’s general elections.

According to her, women constitute a formidable block for the success of the party before, during and after the elections and assured them that she would use every opportunity for the development of women in the country.

“Your concerns are my concern and I would not renege on my responsibility to advancing your course,” she promised.

The event was to afford the First Lady the opportunity to meet, interact and thank the women for the significant role they played that ensured a convincing victory at the polls for the NDC in the December 2012 elections.

The constituency organizers and the market women acknowledged and praised the affability of the First Lady. They described her as a mother, adviser, philanthropist and a valuable First Lady for Ghana. In their view, she has demystified the Office of the First Lady by interacting with people at a personal level.

Madam Mercy Nee Djan, President, Greater Accra Market Associate, pledged their support to the Mahama-led government. She sad God had already chosen President Mahama to lead Ghana and that they would respond to the call of the President and the First Lady anytime any day. She also appealed to the government through the First Lady to help upgrade some markets in the Accra metropolis especially the Salaga Market in Odododiodiodio.

Madam Oboubia Darko, NDC parliamentary candidate for the Gbawe constituency in Accra in the last elections, addressing the women, appealed to them not to expect so much from the government too soon. She it was clear President Mahama has hit the ground running, working around the clock to ensure that the standards of living of Ghanaians are improved. She said Ghana is blessed to have a God-fearing First Lady, a woman whose fear of the Lord will guide her husband as well.

Present at the event were Madam Sherry Ayitey, Minister of Health, Anita De Sousou, NDC National Women’s Organizer, Hajia Zaynab, First National Deputy Women’s Organizer, Sedinam Tamakloe, 2012 NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Sowutuom and Ms Sophia Akuako, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Dome-Kwabenya also in the 2012 elections.
