Ever since president Mahama instructed his vice, Amissah-Arthur to pick nomination forms on his behalf to contest the NDC presidential primaries – the vice president has been tipped to ones again partner the president in the 20016 election.
Not a week passes by without enthusiasts of the former governor of the Bank of Ghana posting articles in the media about how President Mahama has virtually endorsed the vice president – or how he has signaled a possible Mahama/Amissah-Arthur ticket for the 2016 elections.
But the President in an interview with Twin City Radio in the Western Region says he has not yet decided on his running mate for the next presidential polls.
He was emphatic that -picking a running mate now wouldn’t be appropriate when he has not yet secured his position to lead the ‘Umbrella’ fraternity in the 2016 election.
“You cannot have a running mate when you are not elected to lead the party. I can’t elect my running mate now and I can’t tell who my running mate will be,” he categorically stated.
President Mahama further explained that choosing a running mate is not solely his duty – “There should be a consultation with the party executives to select a running mate.”
To him – “My main focus now is how to win the upcoming primaries with the 51% target needed.”
