Emmanuel Atta Twum, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Atiwa District in the Eastern Region, is reported to have collapsed when delivering the president’s speech during the 30th Farmers’ Day celebration at Akyem Akropong yesterday.
As gathered, the incident happened after Amoako Atta and Abena Osei Akoto, incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament for Atiwa East and West respectively, as well as the Akyem Akropong chief had finished addressing the gathering.
The DCE was reportedly rushed to the Enyiresi Government Hospital for medical attention and was discharged later in the afternoon.
The Atiwa West National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication offer, C.K Amankwah, briefing DAILY GUIDE, said the DCE fell on the ground on his right side whilst reading the president’s speech.
He said the police officers who were at the event ground quickly rushed to rescue Mr Atta Twum when they realised what had happened.
“The Ghana National Fire Service personnel and the police quickly rushed him with a stand-by National Ambulance to the Enyiresi Government Hospital for treatment,” he maintained.
The programme, as gathered, didn’t end successfully as most of the residents who went to the place to witness the event dispersed to their various homes. The District Agriculture Officer, who had no other option, quickly ordered the MC to distribute the awards to the deserving farmers.
DAILY GUIDE learned that the 66-year-old DCE had collapsed on four different occasions: first, when he was once delivering a speech at the Akyem Tumfa Presbytery during a harvest festival; during the 6th March celebration at Anyinam and also at the Eastern Regional Minister’s residence when he attended an NDC meeting.
The Atiwa West NDC constituency executives had written numerous petitions calling on the president to replace the DCE, claiming that he is not in good health to work efficiently.
When DAILY GUIDE called the DCE’s phone number at press time, he told the paper that he didn’t collapse at the programme, but he felt dizzy after delivering his speech so he sought permission and went home for some medication.
