A 38-year-old travel and tour operator is standing trial for posing as a football agent and defrauding some unsuspecting victims.
The accused, Edwin Ofosu Dankyi, was granted bail yesterday.
According to the police, the complainant who reported the case stated that last year he saw an advertisement detailing that footballers were being recruited to ply their trade in Dubai.
Interested, the complainant contacted the accused, who verified the publication and confirmed that he could make it happen.
Convinced, the complainant paid an amount of GH¢16,000 to Edwin to process the necessary documents for him to enable him go and play football in Dubai.
The complainant stated that after the payment, Edwin started playing games with him.
He held that anytime he went to him to claim the documents for the trip, the accused would give an excuse that he was working on Australian and South African visas to enable him transit to Dubai.
Frustrated after being tossed around by Edwin for a year, the complainant reported the case to the police in August this year.
Edwin was then arrested by some other group of people he had defrauded and handed over to the police.
He was charged with conspiracy and defrauding by false pretence.
Meanwhile, 32 people have come forward from some parts of the country that Edwin has done the same thing to them.
