Prez. Mahama attends Burkinabe President-elect inauguration

Flagstaff_156President John Dramani Mahama will Tuesday morning lead a delegation to the inauguration of the President-elect of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kabore, a statement from the Flagstaff House has said.

As a former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, the 58-year old Christian Kabore was elected in November 2015 as part of transitional arrangements instituted by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government during the Chairmanship of President John Mahama.

Though originally planned for October, the elections had to be postponed to November because of a coup by the Presidential Guards.

Another round of mediations by ECOWAS Leaders including President John Mahama saw the restoration to office of the Transitional President Michel Kafando and his Prime Minister.

The statement from the Presidency said accompanying the President to Ouagadougou were Former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia and officials of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The newly elected leader of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Dr. Edward Mahama and officials of the PNC were also part of the delegation.

It said President Mahama will return to Ghana later on Tuesday.
