Hannah Tetteh should give her house to Gitmo prisoners if Ghana is safe

hannah-tettehThe opposition NPP Youth Activists called Students Network For Nana Addo (STUNNAD) has urged President John Mahama and his Foreign Affairs Minister, Ms. Hannah Tetteh to accommodate these suspected criminals who have allegedly admitted working with the Taliban and the Al-Qaeda Bin Laden.

According to the youth activists, if in the thinking of the President and his Foreign Affairs Minister, Ghana is safe to welcome into the country and live among the citizens then they should do the honorable thing to house them and not with the unguarded citizens.

A statement copied to Peacefmonline.com quotes that “Gradually Ghana is carelessly receiving attention on almost everything called ‘evil’. If President Mahama and Hon. Hannah Tetteh think it is safe for Ghana to accommodate these suspected criminals who according to the US media as reported on Pulse.com.gh, have admitted working with the Taliban and the Al-Qaeda Bin Laden then I think it will be safe for President Mahama and Ms. Hannah Tetteh to house them in their homes”.

The NPP Youth Activists have however alleged that the decision of President Mahama accepting to house the ex-inmates has to do with the first lady, Lordina Mahama’s request for huge money for her foundation or for President’s free Housing Projects.

They have therefore indicated that Ghanaians are being used as collateral for the selfish gains of the Mahama and his NDC government; for fear that the citizens can be attacked as innocent people in France were killed due to same reckless decision of their government.

The youth activists however quizzed why the US could not accommodate the ex-inmates if the US Department of Defense has what it takes to provide necessary security assistance to Ghana in order to ensure a smooth transfer of the inmates.

“We are told the suspects are already in Ghana and that is the most careless decision made by President Mahama and his government and we urge all well meaning Ghanaians to rise and chase these suspect out of the country. News on the Pulse.com.gh indicates that “the US media has reported that one of the two discharged Guantanamo prisoners who are currently in Ghana fought for the late terror king Osama Bin Laden, the first in a wave of 17 detainees expected to be transferred from the prison camp.” So if the two, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby are already in Ghana, then we must be worried as far as our national security is concern. The two inmates are the first of a group of 17 detainees expected to be transferred out of Guantanamo Bay that includes “multiple bad guys” and “Al Qaeda followers,” the Fox News has reported.

“The question we all have to ask is why the US or any other country can’t accept these two suspects if it is safe for them. How can the US assure Ghana of the necessary security assistance when they cannot assure themselves of the same security? If US can protect every citizen of Ghana against any security threat then they should be able to accommodate the two”.
