But for his display of profuse patriotism, selflessness and bravery, only God knows how many innocent Ghanaians and foreign Nationals would have fallen victims to a rather wayward and rascal police officer who had Team Up with other notorious civilians to form a robbery Gang
His name is Enock Kwame Amoah, a 32 year old Taxi driver
In mid November 2015, he was using a Taxi cab with Registration number WR 577 Z to work in the night in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis when a uniformed police officer by name, Osmanu Yahaya with the Takoradi Central Police hired him at about 1:30am to convey some ‘stolen’ items from Tanokrom, a suburb of Takoradi to the Central Police Station
On thier way to Tanokrom, the cop ordered the Taxi driver to pick two other civilians who the Police officer claimed were the thieves who stole those items, an order the Cabbie complied with
He then drove them to a Mechanical Shop at Tanokrom where they entered and took four engine blocks that were supposed to have been stolen by the two civilians
The cop then asked the driver to drive them to the police Station but on the way going, the cop asked the driver to divert to Kokompe where upon arrival they offloaded the items and gave them to a shop owner the cop had arranged everything with on the phone and collected 160 ghana cedis.
The cop then asked the driver to go and alight them at the Effiakuma Police Barracks
This heightened the suspicion of the cabbie and on their way from Kokompe, the cabbie luckily spotted some immigration officials standing by the roadside and he cunning asked permission from the cop that he was settling an amount he owed around and back upon which he alerted the Immigration officials who assisted in the arrest of the three including the cop
They were sent to the police Station where they confessed to stealing upon which they led the police to the buyer who also confessed to receiving those items
The four were subsequently charged with the offense
The case is still pending in court
Barely three months after this heroic feat at the severest peril of his life, not even a bird has chirp to tap this brave and cunning cabbie on the shoulders…
I passionately beg to ask Mr President;
Is it the case of only when it happens in Accra that Heroes are recognised and rewarded?
There is a Taxi driver hero too in the Western Region!
Reward him Sir!
Yours in the indefatigable service of Ghana
