CHELSEA were finalising a deal for 26-year-old Brazil forward Alexandre Pato last Sunday night.
The Premier League champions hope to increase their firepower — particularly for their European campaign — by taking the striker on loan from Corinthians, with a possible permanent switch to follow.
Pato scored 63 goals in 150 games during six years at AC Milan, where he lifted the Serie A title in 2011, before returning to Brazil three years ago.
After scoring 26 goals on loan at Sao Paulo last year, Pato is ready to test himself in England, and strongly hinted at a move to the Premier League in an interview with The Mail.
“One day I knew I would like to come to England because I think the championship is No 1 in the world,” he said. “It is very competitive. I like the emotion in the English league.”
Pato’s arrival will provide competition for Diego Costa, who scored his eighth Premier League goal of the season in last Sunday’s victory over Arsenal.
